About Reclaiming SF

Yes, there are Black people in San Francisco, and we're here to reclaim our narrative! How do we ensure equitable access to spaces, and how does our relationship to place matter? Reclaiming SF asks these questions and seeks to expand people’s understanding about spatial justice, and to empower everyone— but especially Black communities— to exchange ideas, and ultimately co-create a San Francisco where Black people thrive, now and forever.

Reclaiming SF is part kickback space, part museum that invites people to gather, create and tell their own stories about how they experience the city.

Juell cultivated a passion for vibrant urban culture growing up in Chicago. Her life has taken her from coast to coast— from organizing in Brooklyn to her professional life as a public servant in San Francisco, where she has lived for the past 8 years. Reclaiming SF came out of a desire to reframe the narrative about Black San Francisco, and to create a space where Black folks can come together and tell their own stories.
